About the story

Buster Bee acts cheerful while helping Grandpa Bee prepare for a long trip from Bugville Airport, but after the departure his sadness spills into complaints, frustration, and tears at Bee House. Buster finally admits that he can be proud of Grandpa’s adventure and still hate that he has gone away.

A communication calendar, phone calls, postcards, and a notebook of things to share give the waiting days a shape. When Grandpa returns, Buster understands that goodbyes can hold several feelings at once—and that distance can also hold pride, questions, connection, and the promise of hello.
