About the story

During a class visit to the Bugville Fire Department, Barry Beetle volunteers to replace faded labels on a demonstration cabinet. His first designs spin, ring, fold, and hide clever clues—but visitors cannot quickly find or return the practice equipment.

Chief Ben Beetle encourages Barry to observe how real people use the cabinet. Barry replaces his complicated inventions with bold pictures and clear words, discovering that thoughtful design does not need to show off: sometimes the cleverest solution works so smoothly that everyone can simply use it.
