About the story

A rainy evening brings unexpected guests to the community supper at Teakettle Diner. Sarah Silkworm happily adds chairs, place cards, napkins, and bowls, but her determination to make every detail perfect keeps her rushing while everyone else begins eating and sharing stories.

When Sarah admits that she needs one more place for herself, her family and friends quickly create it with a folding chair, a mismatched spoon, and plenty of care. Sarah discovers that true hospitality is alive, shared, and imperfect—and that welcoming everyone includes allowing the community to welcome her too.
